- Antisense Oligonucleotide is a technique used to skip exons. Exons are areas of a gene, like chapters in a book. Skipping an exon allows faulty genetic material to be ignored and full length dystrophin to be produced.
- Antisense Oligonucleotides Trials
- Antisense Oligonucleotides trials are clinical trials designed to test the safety and efficacy in humans. A different trial is required for each exon.
B
- Base Pair
- The basic constituent of DNA, can be either “C”, “T”, “A” or “G”. Base pairs combine in triplets to form codes, called, “Codons”.
C
- Chromosome
- A chromosome represents a large area of DNA that contains Genes.
- Codon

E
- Exon
- An Exon is a section of a Gene that contains DNA that is read. Every Gene contains alternating Exons and Introns.
- Exon Skipping
- Exon Skipping is the ability to cause an Exon to be ignored. The end result of ignoring an Exon will mean the final Protein that is produced by the Cell is missing a small section. If this skipped Exon contained a Variant, then this Variant will not be in the final Protein.
F
- Familial Type
- The Familial Type represents from which parent a genetic Variant was inherited.
- Frequency Type
- Frequency Type represents whether a thing happens a number of times within a period, or a number every amount of periods.
G
- Gender
- The gender represents sex of a Person.
- Gene
- A Gene represents a gene in the human body
H
I
- Inheritance Type
- The Inheritance Type represents how a genetic Variant was inherited from a parent. Gender
- Intervention
- An Intervention represents an enumerated set of treatments that can be a Product or Action. For example a Product might include Steroids and an Action might include Heel Cord Surgery.
- Intervention Status
- Intervention Status represents the status of a course of treatments, for example whether it was completed or stopped.
- Intervention Type
- Intervention Type represents the type of intervention, for example drug or procedure.
- Intron
- An Intron is a section of a Gene that contains DNA that is not read. Every Gene contains alternating Exons and Introns.

- Organisation Type
- Organisation Type represents a classification of NHS organisations.
P
- Participant
- A Participant represents a Person with Variant information.
- Participant Intervention
- A Participant Intervention represents an instance or regime of Intervention for a Participant. An instance includes a one off action, such as an operation. A regime includes starting (and stopping) a treatment, such as steroids
